Sephardic citizenship law closed; ongoing appeals backlog

The 2015 law allowing descendants of Sephardic Jews to claim Spanish citizenship closed to new applicants on 1 October 2019, with applications lodged before that date having a long appeal tail still being processed through 2024-2025.
