Germany’s nationwide local-transport subscription costs €63 (approx. £54) a month in 2026

What the evidence shows

Since January 2026, the Deutschlandticket costs €63 (approx. £54) per month. It is a personal, monthly subscription valid across participating local public transport and regional rail in Germany, including buses, trams, U-Bahn, S-Bahn, RB and RE services. Normal long-distance ICE, IC and EC trains, first class and private long-distance operators are excluded, subject to a small number of route-specific exceptions.

Why it matters

Someone comparing German cities can use one subscription across local transport networks without buying a separate standard pass for each region. It is most valuable for local and regional travel, not as a replacement for long-distance rail tickets.

What this does not prove

• The ticket is a subscription and cancellation deadlines depend on the selling provider.
• It is personal and cannot normally be transferred to another traveller.
• ICE, IC, EC, FlixTrain, FlixBus and first-class travel are generally excluded.
• A few route-specific long-distance exceptions exist, so the exact train should be checked before travel.
• Local concessions and employer-supported Jobticket prices can differ from the standard €63 (approx. £54) price.
