Portugal residents can buy a 30-day national Green Rail Pass for €20 (approx. £17)

What the evidence shows

Portugal’s Green Rail Pass costs €20 (approx. £17) for 30 consecutive days and is available to Portuguese residents and foreign residents in Portugal. It covers Regional and InterRegional trains, Coimbra urban trains, specified sections outside Lisbon and Porto metropolitan pass areas, and second-class Intercidades travel with advance seat reservations. It does not cover Alfa Pendular or Celta international services.

Why it matters

A €20 (approx. £17) national rail product can make living outside the largest cities or exploring potential bases much cheaper, but it is a resident product rather than a tourist rail pass and it does not replace every metropolitan or premium service ticket.

What this does not prove

• The pass is restricted to Portuguese residents and foreign residents in Portugal.
• Intercidades travel is second class only and requires a free advance seat reservation.
• Alfa Pendular and Celta international trains are excluded.
• Lisbon and Porto urban coverage is limited to sections outside the metropolitan intermodal-pass areas.
• The pass is personal, must be loaded to an eligible CP card or digital credential, and is not refundable.
