Central Bank moves to a market-determined exchange rate

In force Taxation

On 6 March 2024 the Central Bank of Egypt said the exchange rate would be determined by market forces, with the objective of unifying the official and parallel markets. The Monetary Policy Committee also raised its overnight rates by 600 basis points. The former record's approximate percentage-devaluation claim has been removed because the official decision is defined by the exchange-rate regime and policy-rate action.

Who it affects

Residents, employers and businesses exposed to Egyptian-pound prices or foreign-currency payments.
