Three-year “fast-track” naturalisation is abolished
Repealed
Citizenship
Germany abolished the exceptional naturalisation route after three years of residence on 30 October 2025. The earliest ordinary residence threshold is now five years, provided the applicant also meets the language, livelihood, identity, constitutional-commitment and other statutory conditions. The repeal did not reverse the 2024 acceptance of multiple nationality.
Who it affects
Applicants who had expected to qualify through exceptional integration after three years.
