Rent brake is extended through 2029

In force Housing

Federal law extended the rent brake framework through the end of 2029. The rule can restrict starting rents for covered re-lets in areas that a state has formally designated as having a tight housing market, generally to no more than 10% above the local comparative rent. It is not a nationwide cap on every tenancy: geographic designation, property exceptions and the prior lawful rent matter.

Who it affects

Tenants and landlords in state-designated tight housing markets.
