Constitutional amendment ends automatic nationality loss after foreign naturalisation

Constitutional Amendment 131/2023 removed the rule under which merely acquiring another nationality could cause loss of Brazilian nationality. A Brazilian with another definitive nationality may still request loss voluntarily if that would not create statelessness, and the amendment permits reacquisition of original Brazilian nationality under law. The former record's claimed 2024 proposal to tighten naturalisation could not be substantiated.
