The Department of State updated its worldwide appointment instructions on 15 July 2026. Nonimmigrant visa applicants should schedule in their country of nationality or residence, or at a designated processing post where routine operations are unavailable. Applicants relying on residence must be able to demonstrate it. Applying elsewhere may be harder and fees are not refundable or transferable; limited diplomatic and treaty-based exceptions remain.
